Truly a great resource. Every good thing said so far is true – any novice can make these chains. I started from ground zero, with no soldering or fusing skills, and nothing but a fire brick, pliers, wire, and a micro torch. All it takes is the ability to follow directions and a bit of patience. So far I’ve made the single loop-in-loop and the double loop-in-loop, and am proud of both. In fact, I’ve had several bench jewelers be quite complimentary and somewhat incredulous that a mere mortal could learn something like that just from reading a book. 
If you want gorgeous handmade chains, and love the process of creating things, this book is for you.

Copper or steel jewelry chain with black coating?
How can you give color to metal that's gonna be used in jewelry making? Like regular chain link for necklaces. I have a few spools of plain silver metal (not sterling, just..... metal. i don't know what its actually made of.) and also some copper chain that's coated with some black thing that i can't Chains For Making Jewelry tell what it is. It doesn't really seem like paint because usually when you think paint + metal = chipping. But this black chain, ("Black Lace" is the brand or whatever... or the type, brand is.... horizon group USA? their website is useless because there is nothing there so i can't get any info on them. but the stuff is sold in Michael's art supply warehouses.) looks and feels velvety, not like a cold smooth hardness you get with uncoated metal. I just want to know if anyone has any idea what I'm talking about and any ways i might be able to duplicate this coating, because buying coated chain like that is expensive and I am in need of massive amounts of black chain for Halloween costume jewelry.
